What is AANCHOR?

The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance is the result of science diplomacy efforts involving countries from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean which aims to enhance marine research and innovation cooperation in all Atlantic nations, from the Arctic to Antarctica. TechOceanS is involved in the alliance as one of The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Projects (commonly called “sister projects”) which has received European funds to run ocean research activities that are aligned with the objectives of the Galway and Belém Statements, contributing to the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Community.

Each year AANCHOR host the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Forum. This year the event will be co-hosted by the United States and Brazil, in collaboration with the European Commission, over two events between May and July 2022. Numerous online side events will also take place. The Forum will provide a platform for innovative thinking using the best practices and online approaches to share knowledge, create synergies and co-design actions to support decision making in the Atlantic region. By participating in the workshops, you can inform the Atlantic Community about your ongoing ocean research activity in TechOceanS and how this is supporting the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance, discuss priorities for cooperation and enhance interactions among existing activities, leveraging their outcomes and impact.

Outcomes from the Scientific Event will be highlighted at the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C. the week of July 12-14 (streamed live), which will also feature ministerial interventions and the signing of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research & Innovation Alliance Declaration.

The Declaration outlines the vision of the All-Atlantic and will build upon collaboration between existing initiatives in the Atlantic Ocean on ocean research and innovation. The main ministerial event will be accompanied by side events hosted at several Embassies. Registrations to the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C will open soon.
